It is fun and exciting to be helping our friends, who are missionaries, in Africa. When we asked what we could bring, besides construction tools to help, the answer was “New Mom/New Baby Care Packages”.
What do New Moms and New Babies need in Africa? I’m so glad you asked:
- Cloth diapers (2 @ $1.35 each)
- Onsies (2 @ $2 each)
- 1 aspirating bulb (nose sucker) ($2)
- 1 bottle of Polyvisol ($8)
- nail clippers ($1.50)
- small toy ($2)
- 1 thermometer ($4)
- infant pain reliever ($4)
“The aspirating bulb and the Polyvisol (vitamin supplement)are the most essential to me. An aspirating bulb can save a baby’s life and every mom goes home from the hospital with one in the US. Here no one has them! Polyvisol is not available here and vitamin D and iron deficiency are a huge problem.” – Susan (missionary doctor)
Each of these packages will cost approximately $28.50 to assemble. Looking back on what I thought I needed when I brought my babies home, this is a great deal. Olivia will soon be assisting by sharing at our church and her school about the needs of the new moms and their babies. If you would like to help to bless new moms and babies in Niger, Africa with a “Care Package”- please email us and we can give you additional details.
We plan to send these “Care Packages” along with the team members when they fly to Africa for 2 weeks in January.
