This project involved a crane and 32′ of steel. What can you do with these 2 items? Make an existing space great!
Our clients purchased a brick ranch that had potential, it had enough space for their growing family. The problem was that the space needed to be used differently. The kitchen was small and had no visual connection to the family room. In fact, all of the rooms in the main living area were separate and distinct spaces. The Kitchen, Family Room, Dining Room and space that was used as a play area were part of this area. The existing plan was not ideal for the way the family functioned or for the social events they wanted to host.
This is where the crane and steel beam came in. We proposed removing all of the walls in the main living area to allow for a larger kitchen, to create the feeling of a larger space and to gain visual access to more of the house at one time. This allows more of the house to be used on a regular basis and activities to overflow as needed into what used to be walled off separate rooms.
This project also included the Laundry/Mud Room, the Basement Family Room and Game Room, Craft Room, Guest Bedroom and Bathroom. Due to the extent of the changes, the Guest Bedroom, Craft Room and Bathroom in the Basement were completed first. This allowed the owners to have a space to “be” during the project. This was a better alternative than having to move out or be limited to the use of only their bedrooms and bathrooms during the project.
The fireplace was relocated to the wall opposite the Kitchen and built-in storage was added to accommodate the TV and other electronics.
The result was a large kitchen with lots of storage and counter space, 3 eating areas and the option to talk to the chef while enjoying a seat by the fire.
